Welcome to the website of the Imams and Rabbis Council of the United Kingdom established by the Jewish-Muslim charity, Children of Abraham (Bnai Avraham - Banu Ibrahim). I am Rabbi Reuben Livingstone, Chair of this, the only official national body run entirely by qualified Jewish and Muslim clergy and academics, working to build dialogue and co-operation between our two communities.

About the Imams and Rabbis Council
The Imams and Rabbis Council of the United Kingdom is the only official national charity established and run entirely by ordained and qualified rabbis, imams and Jewish and Muslim academics - there are no secular or interfaith politicians. It was founded as a charity in 2009, following the Historic Mission of European Imams and Rabbis to the United States, under the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, and the World Jewish Congress. It is a full member of the World Congress for Jewish Muslim Co-operation.

Our work
Children of Abraham (Bnai Avraham - Banu Ibrahim) is an international family
As the sole official Imams and Rabbis Council where all trustees and staff are qualified rabbis and imams, we have no interfaith or secular politicians.
The Imams and Rabbis Council of the United Kingdom runs major international projects on countering violent extremism and supporting scholarly Jewish-Muslim engagement around our sacred texts. The Chair of the Imams and Rabbis Council is Rabbi Reuben Livingstone, a senior Orthodox rabbi who is Senior Jewish Chaplain to Her Majesty's Armed Forces and Lecturer at the Montefiore College, London School of Jewish Studies and King's College, London. The Vice Chair is Sheikh Professor Mohamed Elsharkawy, Dean of Al-Azhar College and Imam to the Ministry of Justice National Offenders Management Service. Together, they form an unprecedented religious expertise in the intensive ideological countering of terrorism and extremism.

Education and training
Scriptural Reasoning is one of the major projects supported by the Imams and Rabbis Council, as the practice of Jews, Christians and Muslims meeting together to study their sacred texts and foster "better quality disagreement".
The Scriptures in Dialogue Academic Collaboration of Jewish, Islamic and Christian theological colleges and academic institutions of which the Imams and Rabbis Council of the United Kingdom is part, has established courses in Islamic Studies, Jewish Studies and introductions to the Quran, Torah, hadith and rabbinic texts, as well as specialised courses in Countering Extremism and Jewish-Muslim Dialogue. Please contact us for details on how to register for these online and classroom programmes.
Being led by rabbis and imams, we give highest priority to religious education for military personnel, police and security services, clergy and community leaders as integral to our mission to challenge extremism by deep engagement with the religiously-linked causes of violence and hatred. We offer specialised workshops and teaching programmes run by rabbis and imams together.
